Hockey Australia (HA) today announces that Launceston and Hobart will host the 2020 Under-18’s Australian Championships and 2020 Under-13’s Australian Carnival respectively.

The announcement is part of HA’s ongoing partnership with the Tasmanian Government, with Events Tasmania, to host Australian Championships which form a key part of the sport’s pathway to the elite international level.

Hobart hosted the Under-18’s Australian Championships earlier this year and is due to host the Under-13’s Australian Carnival in October later this year.

Hobart also hosted the 2018 Under-13’s Australian Carnival, while Launceston was the host venue for the 2018 Under-18’s Australian Championships.

The 2020 Under-18’s Australian Mens’ and Womens’ Championships will be played at Launceston’s Northern Hockey Centre from Thursday 16 April to Friday 24 April.

The 2020 Under-13’s Australian Boys’ and Girls’ Carnival will be played at Hobart’s Tasmanian Hockey Centre from Tuesday 29 September to Monday 5 October.

HA CEO Matt Favier said: “We’re delighted to confirm Launceston and Hobart as the host venues for these two important under-age Australian Championships thanks to our ongoing partnership with Events Tasmania.

“Both venues have proved to be excellent hosts with recent Australian Championships and we’re excited to return.

“The Under-13’s Australian Carnival and Under-18’s Australian Championships are significant events for exposing our next generation of Hockey talent to the top level on their pathway to one day representing our national teams.”

Tasmanian Premier and Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events Will Hodgman said: “The Tasmanian Government welcomes Hockey Australia’s Australian Championships to Hobart and Launceston.

“Tasmania is the place to be, so we welcome our nation’s best junior players coming here.

“Tasmania is a strong Hockey State and my Government is proud to have supported the Championships over the past five years with a $495,000 investment.”

HA also thanks Hockey Tasmania for their support in making these events possible.
