The Hockey Tasmania Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Luke Doerner to the position of the Tigers Senior Academy Head Coach.
This comes after a rigorous process since expressions of interest were called for pre-COVID-19. Interest was expressed by those within the hockey community in Tasmania and also from outside Tasmania. As a result, a sub-committee was formed to review the applications and to make recommendations to the board.
That sub-committee recommended two applicants to the board for consideration.
Both applicants made a presentation to the board, reference checks were conducted, and the board then considered the applications.
As a result of that process, the successful applicant was Luke Doerner.
Luke has enormous international experience as a player and Olympian. As a coach he has had impressive success as a specialist coach with Belgium and as the inaugural Tassie Tigers Hockey One women’s head coach in 2019.
The first phase of the Academy is the development of the plan which will encompass not only players, but also appointment of coaches and satellite coaches, selectors, and inclusion of umpiring pathways. It is expected that that process will be completed in time for the Academy to start conducting training by mid-to-late October.
The Academy forms a critical part of the overall development pathway structure.
During the initial planning phase there will be information released in relation to opportunities for coaches, umpires, selectors, and support staff.
