Hockey Tasmania has announced the launch of the Tassie Tigers who’ll represent Tasmania in the exciting new Hockey One competition which was revealed by Hockey Australia on Wednesday 17 April 2019.

Hockey One represents a major shift for Hockey in Australia as a re-imagined elite domestic league and entertainment product that puts fans first, with a new concept, new format, new club identities, new rule innovations and new access for fans with three home matchdays for every club.

In more exciting news for fans, Kayo Sports, Australia’s multi-sport streaming service will show games live with the finals also to be televised live on FOX SPORTS.

The Tassie Tigers are one of seven new club identities from Australia’s major cities who will participate in the inaugural Hockey One, unifying the state’s male and female teams under the same club name.

The Tassie Tigers will host six home-and-away matches at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre (THC) with our male and female teams always playing double-headers, in a major win for fans.

Hockey Tasmania CEO Damian Smith explained the rationale behind the club’s new identity.

“It’s fantastic that Hockey Tasmania, for the first time, on a national stage, can enter both teams under the one name. It’s a chance for our sport to be truly united.

“We’re very excited to launch a new look, new colours, and a brand new logo for the Tassie Tigers.

“It presents a fresh chance to re-brand our senior teams for the new league and open up new opportunities for fan, commercial, and community engagement.”

“This is an exciting time to be involved in Hockey. Hockey One provides a great new opportunity to lift the profile of our sport nationwide. It’s a new era for our sport and it’s great that Tasmania will take a place in the inaugural Hockey One competition.

“It’s not so much what happens on the pitch, anymore, but what happens off the pitch too. We’re going to have a lot more opportunities for our fans to engage with the sport, club, and players, and we believe that there are a lot more commercial opportunities for our sport as a result.

“Over the next couple of months we’ll be rolling out our Tassie Tiger Membership packages, announcing schedules and ticketing. We’ll be one united club, Women’s and Men’s, and we’re really excited with all the options we’ll be able to offer not only our fans and members, but our partners, sponsors, and VIPs.

Hockey Australia CEO Matt Favier said: “This is a significant and exciting announcement for Hockey in Australia as we strive to put fans first and showcase everything that is great about our game with this ambitious new league, Hockey One.

“The feedback we received from numerous surveys and research conducted in recent years with Australian Hockey fans, players and officials has shown there is an appetite for a new approach to our domestic Hockey league, much like other sports have adopted such as cricket’s Big Bash League.

“We’ve worked with our Member Associations on their club identities which are fantastic and full of life and colour. They are sure to engage existing Hockey fans and the next generation.

“Hockey as a game is a fantastic entertainment product and we want to showcase that to the wider Australian public through Hockey One. Our slogan is it’s ‘Real Hockey. Reimagined’.”
