Australia Win Oceania Junior World Cup Qualifiers
Published Mon 12 Dec 2022
Australia's Under 21 representative teams, the Jillaroos (Women) and Burras (Men), have each secured series victories over their New Zealand counterparts in the Oceania Junior World Cup Qualifiers which concluded in Canberra on Sunday.
Although both countries had already done enough to ensure they would represent Oceania at the 2023 Junior World Cups in Chile and Malaysia, the 3-match series was still an important hit-out considering the disruption to the age group over the last few years. This was just the first time the Jillaroos had played since 2019, and only the second time for the Burras after their 2023 Sultan of Johor Tournament in October.
Tasmanian's Evelyn Dalton and Maddison Brooks represented the Jillaroos, while Joshua Brooks represented the Burras and also scored a goal in the 2nd match from the penalty spot.
