Indoor Hockey National Championships Roundup

Starting all the way back on December 14th, 2024 and finishing up on January 19th, 2025, the National Indoor Championships wrapped up earlier this week! The Indoor Hockey page on Instagram (@indoorhockeytas) did an absolutely incredible job of covering the games live, and we'd like to share some highlights that they captured. 

 


 

Opens (Dec 14  - 18, 2024)

Opens were an absolute whirlwind - a killer start to the Championships! The men took home Bronze, in an electric match against NSWS 4-3. Players of the Match across the tournament included Holly Gilbar (game 4), Tim Deavin (games 2 & 4), Jeremy Edwards (game 5), and Ben Rennie (game 6). Other highlights included Kurt Budgeon's hat trick in game 6 against WA, and Tim Deavin's Player of the Tournament award.

   

 


 

U21s (Dec 19 - 22)

We didn't have a Tasmanian team representing at the U21 tournament, but our very own Maddi Clark played for WA, and was awarded equal top goal scorer! Huge congratulations to her!

 


 

U18s (Jan 6 - 10)

Players of the Match across the tournament included Brooke Cunningham (game 1), Angus Anderson-Gillham (game 1), Hamish Cheeseman (game 2), Taylor Cunningham (game 3), Will Roehrer (game 3), Noah Thomas (recieved two!), Cody Innes, Abi Lucas, and Emily Rawson (also recieved two!).

        

       

A huge congratulations to Brooke Cunningham, named U18 Women's Player of the Tournament, as well as the whole U18 Women's team for receiving the Play the Whistle award! Also a huge congratulations to the U18 Men's team award recipients - Noah Thomas (MVP) and Hamish Cheeseman (Coaches Award) and the Women's - Alice Maddock (MVP) and Lily Carter (Coaches Award). The men finished 6th, and the women 8th. 

   

     

 


 

U16s (Jan 15 - 19)

Players of the Match across the tournament included Sadie Rogers (games 1, 3, & final game), Leo Korn (game 1), Joshua Hills (games 2, 3, semi-final, & final game), Molly Davey (game 2), Kallum Hick (GK) (quarter final), Meg Brewer (quarter final), and Frances Boyles (semi-final).

       

     

Both the girls and boys were awarded Play the Wistle, and Joshua Hills was named Player of the Tournament! A huge congratulations to the U18 Boys team award recipients - Joshua Hills (MVP) and Angus Freeman (Coaches Award) and the Girls - Molly Davey (MVP) and a joint Sadie Rogers and Frances Boyles for the Coaches Award. The Girls finished 7th, and the Boys 8th!

     

    

    

 


 

U14s (Jan 11 - 14)

This was Tassie's first representative team in the U14 girls age group! Players of the Match across the tournament included Harriet Rigney (game 1), Matilda Dawkins (game 2), Alex Senior (game 2), Angus McCrae (game 3 & semi-final), Claudia Hurst (game 3), Darcie Tolley (semi-final), Ewan Podmore (quarter final), Sophie West (final game), and Tai Tran-Lau (final game).

       

       

A huge congratulations to the U14 Girl's team award recipients - Sophie West (MVP) and Ruby Larner (Coaches Award) and the Boy's - Ewan Podmore (MVP) and Angus McCrae (Coaches Award). In the end, the U14 Girls placed 7th after winning their last game, and the U14 Boys placed 8th!
