Hookin2Hockey
Hockey Tasmania's Hookin2Hockey program is an introductory competition and training based program designed for primary school aged children (6-12 years of age) who are ready to join up with a team and play hockey! They can learn the basics of hockey while having fun and getting involved in the club-based system in their region.

The Hookin2Hockey Competition has been developed to give children aged 5-12 years an opportunity to learn the game of hockey and perfect the skills in a modified game-based environment. Games are played on smaller fields with less players for greater player participation. Mini Games – Big Fun!
Games are played Saturday afternoons at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre, 19 Bell St New Town for 5 weeks in each term. As the competition is club based players must contact a club to join a Team!
Games are played in the following age groups:
Prep-Grade 2
- 1/8 Field
- Max 5 players on the field at one time
- 2 x 15 min halves (3 minute half-time)
Grade 3/4
- 1/4 Field
- Max 6 players on the field at one time
- 2 x 15 min halves (3 minute half time)
Grade 5/6
- 1/2 Field
- Max 7 players on the field at one time
- 2 x 15 min halves (3 minute half time)

All players must complete an online individual player registration with Hockey Tasmania to play in the 2024 Season. Thanks to Aurora Energy Hookin2Hockey registration is now free for all participants! Players are still required to complete the annual registration.

There is a $5 Gate entry to the Tasmanian Hockey Centre on Saturday’s for adults (children free) during the regular winter season (Mar-Sep). Each HookIn2Hockey player will be provided with a Family Pass upon completing their Hockey Tasmania HookIn2Hockey registration; this will enable free entry for all family members accompanied by a player during the HookIn2Hockey rosters. Passes will be supplied to your Club HookIn2Hockey Co-ordinator for distribution to players/families.
All clubs are based at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre and offer an optional training for their HookIn2Hockey players. If your child would like to join the “HookIn2Hockey” roster please contact one of our clubs directly to ask to join a team!
Equipment
All participants must have their own mouth guard and shin pads. Hockey sticks may be provided for new players by your club or can be purchased from Just Hockey located at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre.
Uniform
Once players have chosen a club team your Club Co-ordinator will arrange team uniform. Players to wear hockey shoes, running shoes or sneakers on the turf.
Rosters
HookIn2Hockey Rosters will be available online through the Hockey Tasmania website via the rosters section of the Hookin2Hockey page. Rosters will also be communicated by
your Club HookIn2Hockey Co-ordinator.
Cancellation Policy
Clubs will be notified should games need to be cancelled due to poor weather however parents are also encouraged to follow Hockey Tasmania – Southern Hockey on Facebook for notifications.
Skill Development
Hockey Tasmania provides development opportunities for beginners through to experienced club players from ages 5-12 years. Sessions are offered as a one day clinic through our School Holiday Program or in multiple 1 hour sessions as a Development Program.

Hockey Tasmania's HookIn2Hockey Roster provides an opportunity for kids aged 6-12yrs of all levels to experience hockey in a fun and safe environment. Mini Games - Big Fun!
The Hookin2Hockey program will consist of skill development and gameplay in each session that is lead by a Hockey Tasmania appointed coach.
Player Registration
All players must complete an online individual player registration with Hockey Tasmania to play in the 2024 Season. Thanks to Aurora Energy Hookin2Hockey registration is now free for all participants! Players are still required to complete the annual registration.
This annual fee is payable once and allows players to participate in both term rosters. Teams will be invoiced separately by Hockey Tasmania for each individual competition after week two has been completed.
All players who are not part of a club will need to register for HookIn2Hockey via the registration portal on the following link: Registration | Hockey Tasmania.

Hockey Tasmania will also provide an option for players to purchase an equipment pack including a stick, shin pads, mouthguard and hockey ball which totals $75 including the registration fee. This pack is provided by Hockey Australia and delivered directly to the participants.
Equipment
The Northern Hockey Centre can provide hockey sticks and shin pads on the day if you do not own this equipment. All participants must have their own mouth guard. Players to wear clean sports shoes on the turf.
Cancellation Policy
Clubs will be notified should games need to be cancelled due to poor weather however parents are also encouraged to follow Northern Junior Hockey on Facebook for notifications as that is the most efficient way of contacting everyone quickly. It is also where we post all our relative hockey information like upcoming school holiday and junior development programs.

The 1hr HookIn2Hockey session will be run over 6 weeks in Term 4 at Meercroft Park on Saturday Mornings (9:00-10:00am). The format will include a 15-20min skill session to help introduce new players to the sport, as well as continuing skill development for existing players followed by mini games in the following age groups:

The 1hr HookIn2Hockey session will be run over 5 weeks in 2024 at McKenna Park on Saturday Mornings (10-11am). The format will include a 15-20min skill session to help introduce new players to the sport, as well as continuing skill development for existing players followed by mini games in the following age groups:

· Grade 5/6 (Half Field)

We are also pleased to annoucned that thanks to the hard work and collaboration of Smithton Hockey Club, Circular Head Hockey and Smithton Turf, that there will be no turf fees applied to participants this year!
