The Under 13 Boys are well-equipped for the upcoming National Carnival in Hobart, thanks to their strong training program.
Head Coach and former Hockeyroo, Bianca Pritchard has provided the boys with a first-class training regimen, that has included access to great resources and sessions with Tassie Tigers Hayden Beltz and Jack Welch.
In her third year as coach of the group, Pritchard believes that playing in Hobart will help give the boys confidence.
“The crowd cheering takes you to another level,” she said. “I always loved playing in front of a home crowd.”
“I expect this Tassie team to have a ‘red hot crack’ for the week, to support each other and to perform consistently.”
Fitness has been a major part of the teams preparation due to the demanding schedule that includes 11 games in six days.
With a training routine that included a weekly spin class and swimming sessions, as well as a monthly beep-test, the boys are well prepared for the rigours of the carnival.
“I have not personally experienced a competition with eleven games in six days.”
“It’s particularly challenging for this age group as their bodies are growing,” she said.
Pritchard believes that the team will be very competitive and said: “There is a core group of players in this team who will be known names in hockey circles for years to come.”
“They are talented, hard workers, disciplined, they listen, are respectful to others and they come from supportive families.
The Under 13 Boys will play their first game of the Under 13 Carnival on Thursday, October 4 at 10.15am against SA. They will play a second game at 5.30pm vs the NSW Stars.
