The Tasmanian Under 13 Girls team is expected to perform extremely well at this years Carnival in Hobart and features a list of players with previous winning experience at National Carnivals.
The team consists mostly of members from the 2017 Under 12 Bronze Medal winning team, and also features five players from the 2018 Under 12 team who won Bronze in August.
Coach Nic Duffy said: “I expect the team to perform well. They know how to win games and have played with each other in a tournament format.”
The teams preparation has been excellent, with the girls completing a strength, agility and fitness training regimen to help them stay injury free, before moving into match-play and practice games in the lead up to the carnival.
Duffy believes the team is well-prepared, and that there are many players to watch.
“They have all had plenty of hockey (games and training) in the lead up to this week.”
“We are a pretty even team and I feel that is one of our strengths,” she said.
“However, players to watch would be our co-captains, Isabelle Kruimink and Felicity Wilson-Haffenden, as well as Emma O’Grady and Ellie McDonald.”
Having played in front of a home crowd herself, Coach Duffy believes the home crowd will make a huge difference.
“It provides a massive boost when you know that most of the crowd want you to win,” she said.
“I’m sure that the girls will be nervous but also very excited about playing at home in front of friends and family.”
“I really encourage everyone to come out and support the girls – and the boys – as they represent their state with pride.”
The Under 13 Girls will play their first game of the Under 13 Carnival on Thursday, October 4 at 11.30am against the NSW Lions and will play later in the day at 4.45pm against the NSW Stars.
